So I’ve been making incremental upgrades over the past week to my Ubuntu server that I self-host various things on. After adding an nvme drive to it recently, it broke my ethernet adapter because the nvme drive uses a PCI Lane so it changed the ID of my ethernet port. After some troubleshooting and searching the internet, I fixed that by updating a net plan config.
Today I added a new platter drive to extend my storage. After installing my ethernet broke again and I no longer had access to the internet. Spent about an hour to an hour and a half troubleshooting. Realized when moving my server that lives near my router, I wiggled the power cable out of the socket for the router. Nothing was wrong… Problem was indeed between keyboard and chair 🤦
